According to AllAboutBirds.org, overwintering bluebirds feed heavily on native berries like mistletoe, sumac, holly, dogwood, and juniper. Now, though, bluebirds face already-diminishing supplies of berries; so what happens when bluebirds can't find any more? Some leave; some don't survive; some come to backyards.
bluebirds seem to find most attractive is finely chopped apples, no larger than pea-sized, and rehydrated chopped raisins--similar to their preferred berries.
